Saudi club Al-Ittihad ready to offer £200MILLION for Mohamed Salah, setting new world transfer record, after Liverpool rejected £150m bid... and will carry on pushing for a deal next week
The Saudi Pro league club is not giving up on Salah, even though the Anfield club has turned down their £150m bid. They have until September 7, when their window closes, to pursue the Egyptian star.
The Saudis are determined to make Salah the face of their new project, even if it means surpassing the record £198million fee that Paris St Germain paid for Neymar in 2017. They have been in talks with Liverpool for months, and have intensified their efforts in the last few days by setting up a base in Cannes, France, to negotiate. However, Liverpool have shown no interest in selling their star forward, who is highly valued by Jurgen Klopp. They have rejected the latest offer on Thursday night and today they have reaffirmed that the 31-year-old is not for sale and that the matter is closed.
Salah, who scored 30 goals in all competitions for Liverpool last season, is part of the club's leadership group and signed a new three-year contract last summer, which made him the highest-paid player in Liverpool history.
Liverpool have no need to rush into a sale, as the Egyptian still has two more years left on his current deal. Neymar’s arrival from Paris Saint-Germain in August was a huge statement by Saudi, but they want Salah to be their marquee signing of the summer. Liverpool have seen several of their stars leave for the Middle East, where they were offered huge salaries. Henderson left his captain’s armband to join Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, while Fabinho and Firmino also departed. Alisson and Konate were tempted by Saudi offers, but they chose to stay at the Premier League giants.
Chief Football Reporter Mokbel doesn't think Salah will be sold, but says that the club are looking at possible deals if they have to make a move in the market.
'I think ideally they don't want to sell him. Jurgen Klopp definitely doesn't want to sell him,' said Mokbel.
'But my information is that they were perhaps manoeuvring themselves into a position to strike for certain forwards who may be available in the market for the contingency of Mo Salah departing.
